As many of you will be aware, the effects of the
credit crunch are having a really big impact on the lives of people
living within Preston.
·
Families are struggling to balance paying rent and other bills with purchasing food and other items for their children.
·
Individuals are finding it harder to find work and are becoming homeless - this is on the increase in Preston.
Poverty is generally on the increase.
It’s easy to think that, as an individual, we
cannot make much impact on this. After all, even those elected to
Government are struggling to handle the economic problems in the country. However, there are small, significant things each
of us can do which have an immeasurable impact on the lives of
individuals and families living locally. To this end, the Union is
collecting the following items within the Opportunities Centre, so that
collectively our small contributions make a bigger impact.
We would like you to donate the following items:
·
In-date, tinned food, dried goods (cereals and pastas), soap and toiletries
·
Warm winter woollies – hats, scarves, gloves, socks, sleeping bags or blankets
·
Good quality or new toys
We will donate these items to agencies within
Preston who are in contact with people in need for Christmas and will
continue the food collections throughout the year.
The Opportunities Centre is open weekdays
between 9am – 9pm. Please spread the word to your friends and group
members. Your group may wish to collectively purchase some of these
items.
Thank you,
